I'm old enough that I wasn't taught how to make PowerPoint presentations in school. When I finally made it to college, I was about 10 years older than my classmates, who all learned how to use the Microsoft program and said things like, "It's super easy" and, "You just have to add some pictures and some text." I never did try to master the program. Someone else was always willing to take on that part of the group project and I was able to slip through without ever learning how to make a computer slideshow.
Thank goodness for Haiku Deck for making presentation creation easy and beautiful for people like me. The app is so easy to figure out that even an old timer like me can make stunning presentations with very little effort.
The only thing you will need is the words. The app does the rest.
First, name your presentation and pick a theme. The app comes with five different themes that include hundreds of pictures for each. Each theme has dozens of searchable images for hundreds of different words that you include in your presentation.
For example, if your first presentation slide reads, "Get In Shape This Spring," the app will generate a list of words for you to choose from that best describe your ideal image. The list will include "Get, "Shape," and "Spring." Pick one of those words and you will see a list of images that are tagged with that word. For example, if you pick "Spring," you'll see blooming flowers and beautiful birds. If you pick "Shape," you will see images with interesting abstract shapes. You can also customize your slide image by searching with a different word, like exercise, or diet.
You can also add images from your device's camera roll, or search Flickr, Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, and more. There are plenty of ways to get the image you want into your presentation.
You can also add premade charts for simple visual references. These charts can be manually edited, but you don't have a whole lot of options, so don't create a highly complex set of statistics to add to this graph. Keep it simple.
You can post your final presentation to Haiku's website if you want others to share your creation. There are beautiful recipe presentations, travel photography projects, business layouts, and more.
The app comes with five free themes, but you can buy 11 more for $1.99 each or $14.99 for the "Bento Box" of all themes. Each theme changes the font, layout and color hue of the presentation so you can change the look without having to change all of the pictures.
What I liked: This productivity app is unbelievably easy to use. I felt like a pro making simple presentations that looked wonderful.
What I didn’t like: You have to log into the app using Facebook or signing up. I didn't see the need for this at all. The app sometimes didn't read images properly and the slide would look weird.
To Buy or not to Buy: This app is free to download and the five free themes that are included with it will keep you're presentation needs in great shape for a very long time. Even if you don't ever think you'll need to make a presentation, you can just make fun slideshows and post them to Haiku Deck's website for others to see.
