With the blogosphere buzzing with complaints about Apple's new Maps app in iOS 6, Apple responded with a statement to the website All Things D: "Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service. We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn by turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We're also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better."
Meanwhile, there are persistent rumors that Google is developing a Maps app that will be available in the App Store. And in the interim, some of those who aren't satisfied with Apple's new Maps app are switching to alternatives. PCMag.com has posted an article titled "10 Alternatives to Apple iOS 6 Maps for the iPhone 5." Several of the alternatives are free and sound like they're definitely worth exploring, such as Bing, MapQuest, Waze, and Scout by Telenav. PCMag's article offers a brief overview of each app as well as a link to their full review.
