Windows Phone 7 Mango Shown Off on HTC HD2 (Video)

We know that Windows Phone 7 Mango has been hacked over to the evergreen HTC HD2 and we even hope to see a public release sometime soon (probably even today) but until then there are a couple of videos to get you through the waiting.

Yes, Windows Phone 7 Mango is working on the HD2 even if there are currently some things that do not, like the Marketplace, search or HTML 5 rendering in Internet Explorer. Other than that, just take a look at the two demo videos below to see how the beloved Leo is handling Redmond's upcoming greatest:

panicLock: Lock all apps on your iPhone via an Activator gesture

Are you concerned about your privacy when you want to hand in your device to a friend? If yes, you should check out a new jailbreak tweak known as panicLock that allows you to protect the private data on your iPhone.

With panicLock, you can secretly lock all the apps on your iPhone via an Activator gesture. This means that after invoking the tweak, when you try to access an app, it will not open no matter how many times you tap on it to launch.

Along with locking all the apps, the tweak also disables Notification Center and Control Center, prevents opening the App Switcher or reading your notifications or any other functionality of iOS that you want to access. It ensures that all the private data on your iPhone are completely secure from intruders.

Once you activate panicLock via an Activator gesture, to disable it and gain access to all your apps and other stuffs, you simply have to invoke the gesture again.

There’s also a pro version of the tweak, but it supports iOS 7 only. The pro version allows you to choose the apps and parts of iOS that you want to lock. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support iOS 8 currently as the developer has only updated the free version of the tweak which restricts access to everything when you activate it.

Once you install panicLock, a new preference pane will be added to the stock Settings app dedicated to the tweak. From there, you can set an Activator gesture that allows you to invoke the tweak and lock all the apps, notifications, Control Center and other parts of iOS on your iPhone.

I noticed that once you enable panicLock, you can still access apps if you open them from Spotlight. This is a major issue that the developer should definitely fix otherwise it negates the whole purpose of the tweak.

Developer creates proxy server for Siri, controls thermostat with his voice (video)

Now that Siri's protocol has been freshly dissected and laid bare for the world to behold, hackers have been busy finding ways to move Apple's personal assistant beyond the realm of the iPhone 4S. That task may be getting easier, however, now that a developer has created his very own third-party proxy server, designed specifically for Siri. The dev, known by his Twitter handle @plamoni, demonstrated his brainchild in a recent video clip, using a plug-in to control a WiFi thermostat with only voice commands. As @plamoni explains, the hack won't require users to jailbreak their iPhone 4S, but it won't let them port Siri over to earlier iPhones or iPod Touch models, either - not yet, at least. The idea, according to the developer, is to make it easier for other hackers to experiment with and build upon Siri's functionality. iBlacklist, Rich Text For Mail, IconRotator Updated With Support For iOS 6.0/6.1, iPhone 5

Cydia developers continue to update their jailbreak apps and tweaks with support for iOS 6.x and iPhone 5.

Here are some of the popular jailbreaks apps and tweaks that have been updated recently.

iBlacklist ($12):

While Apple added some cool call management features in iOS 6, we still can’t do some basic things such as block voice and FaceTime calls etc.

With iBlacklist, you can create a list of numbers that are blocked from calling you. A call from the blacklisted number can either be sent to the voicemail or can be rejected. You can also configure it to answer the call and immediately hang up or you can give set it to give them a permanently busy tone.

It also allows you to create a whitelist of numbers, which will only allow calls from the whitelisted numbers. Calls from any other number can be diverted or rejected.

iBlacklist allows you to block voice calls, FaceTime calls and even text messages. It also offers a scheduling option, so you can activate the blacklist or whitelist only during certain hours of the day or week.

iBlacklist v6.1 is now compatible with iOS 6.1 and iPhone 5.

Rich Text For Mail ($4.99):

As the name suggests, the jailbreak tweak by Ryan Petrich brings rich text editing features to the Mail and Notes app. It allows you to compose and reply to emails in custom fonts, colors and styles and adds format, bold, italic, strike-through, underline and image items to Action Menu, which is not available in the native Mail app and Notes app.

Rich Text for Mail v1.2.4 is now compatible with iOS 6.x.

IconRotator (Free):

While the accelerometer kicks in when you rotate your iPhone in landscape or portrait mode so that whatever you're watching, reading, or seeing adjusts to fit the display, it doesn't work with icons on iPhone's home screen.

As the name suggests, IconRotator makes use of the built-in accelerometer and also rotates the app icons on your iPhone's home screen when you rotate it in landscape mode or portrait mode. It's pretty cool.

Icon Rotator v1.0.1 is now compatible with iOS 6.x and iPhone 5.

WinterBoard and MobileSubstrate Updates:

Saurik has also pushed out updates for Winterboard and MobileSubstrate for full UISounds theme support for iOS 6.1/6.0, so don’t forget to grab them.

How to Fix Endless Reboot Loop Problem on your Jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Now that the evasi0n jailbreak for devices running iOS 6.1/6.0 is out, a lot of you folks are experimenting with your iOS devices by installing tweaks, changing themes and doing all sorts of tinkering. Unfortunately due to the lack of a jailbreak since such a long time, developers haven’t got a lot of time to ensure their tweaks work without any glitches on iOS 6.x, which means that installing certain tweaks could result in undesirable behaviour like crashes or even endless reboot cycles.

In this post, we tell you a few ways to solve these problems.

Hard Reboot

If you’re an iOS user since sometime, by now you’d know that most problems (even on non-jailbroken phones) can be solved by a hard reset. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake (or Power) button simultaneously for a few seconds till you see the Apple logo again. This should get you out of any app that’s in an unresponsive state. There are times when my iPhone becomes completely unresponsive to not only touch inputs, but the Sleep/Wake button as well, in such cases the hard reboot comes in handy.

Endless Reboot Loop

If your jailbroken iOS device is stuck in an endless reboot loop, it is most likely caused by a broken or incompatible jailbreak tweak that you’ve recently installed. In such situations the hard reboot solution also doesn’t work since the tweak tries to run again when iOS boots up. To solve this, when your iOS device is booting up, simultaneously keep the Volume Up button pressed and you should be able to see your Lock screen again. Now you can open Cydia, and uninstall the tweak that you think is creating problems.

If the Volume up button is not working on your iOS device then use the Clicker (not Volume up) button on your headsets or earphones.

Most system tweaks depend on a framework called Mobile Substrate. The framework was developed keeping in mind that when you’re messing with system internals, things could go wrong. By pressing the Volume up button, Mobile Substrate gets disabled entirely, and doesn’t let the problematic tweak load, allowing your iOS device to go past the Apple logo. saurik had added this safe mode feature for Mobile Substrate last year to fix horribly broken jailbreak apps and tweaks.

Check compatibility before installing tweaks

Many developers are still updating their tweaks to work on iOS 6, so before installing anything from Cydia, ensure that iOS 6.1/6.0 is supported. pod2g: iOS 6.1.1 beta Does Not Fix evasi0n Jailbreak

This should come as a relief to jailbreakers. pod2g has just tweeted that iOS 6.1.1 beta that was seeded to developers does not fix the evasi0n jailbreak.

There were some concerns that iOS 6.1.1 beta will fix the hacks used by the evad3rs dev team to prevent users from jailbreaking their iOS device.

It doesn’t look like Apple has fixed the jailbreak at least in the first beta versions of iOS 6.1.1 that was released to developers yesterday. iOS 6.1.1 includes improvements to Maps app for Japan.

pod2g has however jailbreakers to avoid upgrading to it as evasi0n won’t be able to jailbreak until they add support for it, which will only happen when it is released to the public.

6.1.1 beta (10B311) does not fix the jailbreak. It’ll probably happen in a future revision. Don’t upgrade though, evasi0n won’t let you jb.

evasi0n jailbreak which was released on Monday was the first jailbreak for newer devices like the iPhone 5, 4th generation iPad and iPad mini. It was also the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x. As of yesterday, it has been used to jailbreak more than 4 million iOS devices.

So it looks like the evad3rs dev team is ahead in the cat and mouse game with Apple at least for now.
