Box of MiFi tricks up its sleeve

Network giant Orange has refreshed its mobile broadband plans while touting a new Wi-Fi device for those on the move.

Orange's 'Small' plan offers an initial allowance of 500MB and costs 10 a month. Although for a fiver more, customers can benefit from the 'Medium' plan, which doubles the allowance to 1GB and throws in unlimited Wi-Fi.

Those with demand for more - or sufferers of Goldilocks syndrome - may want to move to the 'Large' plan, which offers 3GB allowance as well as the free Wi-Fi for 30 a month.

Customers already on the network - be that home broadband or mobile - will benefit from a 5 reduction of these figures.

The company has also announced a palm-sized wireless receiver box, which supports up to five connections simultaneously, and packs a Micro SD slot for sharing files between devices. The Orange E5830C Mobile Wi-Fi kit will be available in the coming weeks, with prices ranging from 20-60 depending on the mobile broadband tariff chosen.

No word on specific carrier availability was given, though HelloMoto aims to launch it in Asia, Latin America, and Europe in the fall.

President Obama Caught Eying New iPhone 6 During UN Visit

Earlier this week, U.S. President Barack Obama met with world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly. In the midst with the hubbub surrounding the Country's actions against the Islamic State, Obama was seen checking out Bahrain's ambassador's new iPhone 6.

According to the New York Times, during the UN meet-up, Obama spotted the iPhone 6 in the hands of the ambassador and asked whether his phone was "the new 6," to which the representative confirmed that it was.

Although just a passing conversation between two people, it isn't the first time Obama has been associated with Apple products. The President admitted to being an early adopter of the iPad 2. He also spent a portion of his time in office pushing for more funding for technology upgrades in schools through his ConnectED campaign. Apple participated in that campaign by donating $100 million worth of iPads, computers, and more.

The one thing the President does not own, however, is an iPhone. In 2013 Obama made an off-hand comment to reporters that he still uses Blackberry because he "is not allowed, for security reasons, to have an iPhone."

By the time Obama leaves office, Apple will already be working on the iPhone 8 (or and iPhone 7 if Apple follows the traditional "s" model every other year). I wonder what type of technology the company will have come up with by then? Maybe we will finally see a split-screen tablet.

Apple Watch May Be Ready Just in Time For Valentine’s Day

The tech world was pretty sure Apple would unveil its new wearable technology on Sept. 9 during the company's media event. What was actually more of a surprise was finding out that the Apple Watch would not be ready until some indeterminate date in "early 2015." No holiday sales?

According to The Information, even Apple employees and partners were under the impression the Watch would be on store shelves ahead of the Christmas rush. Apparently, "complications with the project" forced Apple to push back the launch date, leaving it's official release date open-ended.

One unnamed source that spoke with The Information commented on the launch of the Watch, saying that Apple "would be lucky to ship it by Valentine's Day."

While the source was implying that Apple probably won't have the Watch ready until mid-February, at the earliest, I like to think more optimistically. Employees at Apple believe that the Watch is on track for a mid-February launch. Maybe the company will burn the midnight oil in order to have it ready for Valentine's Day.

Imagine how sweet it would be to open that pretty jewelry-style box and find an Apple Watch inside. I've never been interested in the lover's holiday. However, I'd walk around all day in a pink heart costume if an Apple Watch were waiting for me when I got home.

Considering Apple will have completely missed out on the biggest shopping season in the U.S., it makes sense that the company would shoot for the next big shopping event. After Valentine's Day, we're looking at an Easter launch, which isn't particularly known for being a holiday when people by expensive accessories for each other.

Apple says being smart means using iPhone. A recent patent application from Apple regarding smart bike has been approved. The application for Apple's smart bike has been published by US Patent & Trademark Office. However, the launch of the product is yet uncertain. The Apple smart bike is a treat for cyclists as it would change the way people used to cycle - It is the modern design of Smart Bike. The only issue is the project of smart bike viable for Apple?

The Apple smart bike gives a complete system for cyclists that would surely use an iPhone. The cyclists would be able to communication with each other (using same technology). That not a big deal (anyone can do that). The real stuff is that the smart bike would indicate the bicycle monitoring system on iPhone. This means you can monitor your heart beat, speed, time, distance, altitude, elevation, and incline-decline, power, derailleur setting, cadence, wind speed, path completion (mapping), expected path remaining and the overall pace of the cycler. This is too much to consider for just a bike, but that not just a bike that is smart bike.

The Apple smart bike would be utilizing various sensors which would be working in coordination with the sensors on the bike. There would be an iPhone app working behind for sure that would definitely be iOS4 compatible. Whatever Apple has planned regarding this product is not going public at least till the probability of the project is finalized. However, one thing is for sure that smart bike would bring a change in Smartphone all over.

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Top Most Benchmarks and Battery Tests, While 6 Plus Lags in Graphics

AnandTech spent the weekend benchmarking the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, comparing the duo to the iPhone 5s and competing Android handsets. The test results show that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models are at the top of the charts in CPU benchmarks and battery life, while the iPhone 6 Plus lags in graphics performance due to the larger screen.

In in GPU benchmarks, we generally see a pretty solid lead over the competition for the iPhone 6/A8. It's seems quite clear that there is a significant impact to GPU performance in the iPhone 6 Plus due to the 2208x1242 resolution that all content is rendered at. It seems that this is necessary though, as the rendering system for iOS cannot easily adapt to arbitrary resolutions and display sizes.

AnandTech also examined battery life, noting that "Apple has managed to do something quite incredible with battery life. " Even with a smaller 1810 mAh battery, the iPhone 6 manages to beat out the iPhone 5s and most other Android phones on the market. Not surprisingly with its 2910 mAH battery, the iPhone 6 Plus grabs second place behind the Huawei Ascend Mate 2.

Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus during its recent September press event and launched the phones on September 19. The two handsets include Apple's new A8 processor, M8 motion co-processor, 8-megapixel iSight camera, faster 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi Fi and NFC. Demand for the two phones was high with Apple selling 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units in the first weekend of sales.

Apple's Ultra-Slim 12-Inch Notebook Rumored to Gain USB Type C and Fanless Internals

Following a previous report claiming Apple's much-rumored 12" ultra-slim notebook is planned to arrive in silver, gold, and space gray color options, Jack March has issued a follow-up report sharing additional details on the machine.

According to March's report, which MacRumors believes to be based on legitimate information, the new notebook has a much thinner design that appears to sacrifice many of the usual ports seen on Apple's current notebooks and may adopt the new reversible USB Type C connector that has seen its specifications recently finalized.

A source familiar with Apple's plans describes the 12 inch Macbook Air as having a noticeably thinner design, the source wouldn't give dimensions however noted that the thinner design may sacrifice the standard USB port and Apple will move to the reversible USB Type C with this product, It is assumed Apple will include an adapter in the box for backwards compatibility.

Interestingly, the report raises some questions about charging on the notebook, indicating that the usual MagSafe port has been removed in favor of a new, unspecified charging method.

In line with previous rumors, the machine is reportedly fanless, suggesting it will adopt an ultra low-power processor such as the Broadwell-Y Core M processors recently announced by Intel. The body of the new notebook is also said to be narrower than the current MacBook Air, with narrower display bezels and a keyboard stretching right to the edges of the machine. Finally, the speakers are said to be located above the keyboard with visible grilles, unlike the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro that have their speakers located underneath the keyboard.

Apple's 12-inch notebook has been rumored for some time, with the launch perhaps being pushed back due to multiple delays for Intel's Broadwell chips. March's previous report indicated Apple appears to be currently looking toward a mid-2015 launch.
